Hotel terraces are tourist magnets. No two ways around it.

Having said that, let’s talk about Hostal Mundo Joven’s newly remodeled terrace. Here, throwing a rooftop party is a whole different animal thanks to the spectacular views arguably one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Latin America, the Metropolitan Cathedral.

Take the elevator up from the hostel’s restaurant to the fifth floor where you’ll need to take a flight of stairs up through a glass door – you’ll feel the music vibrations, that’s how you know you’re on your way. There’s a playful bar made out of wood and wrought iron lit by Edison bulbs in Mason jars turned sconces and the cocktails are served in old-timey glassware. Although it’s not on the menu, ask for a mojito. It’s the perfect sidekick for the laid-back vibes here. One of our favorite things about this place is that the music isn’t blaring so you can actually try to make new friends or simply commandeer the dance floor, if that’s more your thing.

There’s lots of special events here so, keep an eye on the hostal’s social media channels so you don’t miss out on their SUB Sundays, for example, where they invite local and international DJs to spin until well into the night.
