Its big-name neighbors—the Raleigh, Delano, SLS—are fab and flashy. The National, by contrast, is quietly elegant. Instead of bling, it sticks to its art deco roots and meticulously re-creates the ambience of a 1930s hotel. Inside, there are terrazzo floors, shiny chrome lights, angular mirrors, walnut furniture and geometric railings. The glamor extends to the grounds: the sleek infinity pool is framed by rows of palms; the pinstriped sunbeds add to the fashionable feel. In early 2013, the hotel completed a multi-million-dollar renovation; guest rooms got a glamor upgrade and better soundproofing.
