Staying on fabulous Key Biscayne doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Silver Sands, a sleepy 1950s motel, will just take the arm. The main rooms are dowdy time capsules of naff 1980s decor, but they are clean and some have kitchens. Many open on to the lush overgrown courtyard and swimming pool. The grounds are wonderfully romantic, as are the rustic pine cottages, which can accommodate families. Its waterfront Eagles Nest bar was blown away during Hurricane Andrew, leaving full-frontal views of the beach. A budget Shangri-La.
