The Freedom Tower is getting a patriotic makeover as Miami joins the nationwide America 250 celebrations.

America turns 250 next month and Miami is celebrating by turning one of its most recognizable landmarks into a giant work of art.
A new public art exhibition celebrating America's 250th birthday has arrived in downtown Miami, turning the historic Freedom Tower into the centerpiece of a larger patriotic art installation that stretches beyond the landmark's iconic facade. The exhibit, called America 250, uses large-scale abstract artwork, historical imagery and interactive displays to spotlight the country's 250-year journey ahead of July’s semiquincentennial celebration. Towering banners and vivid graphic installations now wrap parts of the tower, making one of Miami's most recognizable buildings into a massive canvas dedicated to American history, culture and achievement.
The exhibition is part of a broader regional effort tied to the nationwide America 250 celebrations, which mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Rather than focusing solely on historical documents and textbook moments, the Miami installation embraces visual storytelling, blending contemporary design with references to major cultural, scientific and sporting milestones.
Visitors will find artwork highlighting figures ranging from Muhammad Ali and Simone Biles to Madonna and Bruce Springsteen, along with nods to innovations and moments that helped shape modern life. The exhibit also makes room for South Florida's own contributions to the American story, including Gloria Estefan's cultural impact and Miami Beach's surprising connection to the development of barcode technology.
The installation extends beyond the tower itself through outdoor displays, interactive elements and a dedicated "Freedom Square" area that shows imagery from past Hyundai Air & Sea Shows. Organizers have also added a patriotic version of Miami Beach's signature Art Deco swing, creating an appropriately Instagram-friendly stop along the route. Best of all, it’s completely free.
The America 250 installation is open now and will remain on view through July 15. Whether you're a history buff, architecture nerd or simply someone who appreciates oversized public art, it's one of the more unusual—and visually striking—ways Miami is marking a major national milestone.
