Miami is about to be invaded by poetry

If March in Miami is for DJs and dance music heads, April is for the poets. That’s because throughout next month, O, Miami—our annual poetry festival—will invade the city.

O, Miami’s mission statement is to put a poem in front of every Miamian. And they achieve that in a fun, guerilla-style 30-day campaign that takes some interesting twists and turns. This year’s events calendar is as creative as ever. There will be your basic open mic nights and readings spread throughout April. But, of course, it wouldn’t be O, Miami without some out-of-the-box ideas, like the family-friendly Poetry in Pajamas, an open mic night at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden that will take place on one huge bed. Poetry scavenger hunts and poet vs. poet softball games are also on April’s calendar.

Poetry fans can also expect something called “Check Out a Poet,” a human-library where you can literally check out a living, breathing poet to read to you or just sort of hang out and talk shop. That will be a collaboration with the Miami-Dade Public Library.

You can get a better idea of all O, Miami’s upcoming plans by visiting their website and checking out the events calendar. Keep those eyes peeled for prose.
