Miami Spice of the Week: Matador Room

Honestly, we could just sit inside Matador Room for an hour in silence, without any food or drink. We could just stare at the elegant, circular dining room and be just fine. But, of course, we don’t recommend that. One, because you’d be missing out on really delicious food and, two, because you’d probably be politely asked to leave and stop creeping everyone out. The Edition’s restaurant, from the lauded Jean-Georges Vongerichten, gives off grandeur upfront but delivers a menu that’s surprisingly accessible and comforting. It’s a cozy combination that just makes you feel warm inside. And unlike most gorgeous hotel restaurants, this Miami Spice will certainly not send you home hungry.

When to go: The Miami Spice menu is offered for dinner only Monday through Thursday and on Sunday.

What to order: Start with the peekytoe crab and corn fritters, then move to the wild Gulf shrimp with sizzling garlic and end with macerated berries with rose granita.

Why we love it: The portions are beyond fair and the service here is second to none. Matador Room is a great celebration spot or date night. Plus, the cocktails coming from the adjacent Matador Bar are some of the best on Miami Beach.

You’ll save: Three courses here will normally run you around $54, so you’ll save a solid $15 with this Spice. Careful with those tasty cocktails, though. A few of those and your tab will shoot up like a rocket ship.
