Those cheap direct flights from Miami to Iceland are gone

Remember, around last April, when all your Miami friends started posting Instagrams from Iceland. Iceland?!

It was a bizarre migration for sure, but one that stemmed from the Icelandic airline WOW Air adding direct (and pretty darn cheap at $99 each way) routes from Miami to Iceland. But, sadly, your summer vacation from Miami to Iceland just hit a speed bump.

WOW Air is no longer running direct flight to Iceland out of Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Blame it on high costs of fuel or an Icelandic distaste for Miamians, but we are now absent on WOW’s list of departing destinations. It’s sad news for those who procrastinated. But it’s not like Iceland is gone. It’s still there—we’re pretty sure. But getting to the beautiful country is going to be harder.

The good news: a whole bunch of new direct flights are coming to MIA, according to the Herald. Milan will launch June 8 on Air Italy; American Airlines will fly us to Savannah starting June 7 and Bonaire, Lesser Antilles, on June 9; Bahamasair begins flights to Bimini out on May 3; and you can fly right to Salvador, Brazil, on April 29 via LATAM Airlines.

See? Not all bad news! And sorry we offended you, Iceland!
