Everything you need to know about visiting Coyo Taco Wynwood (2300 NW 2nd Ave, Miami FL 33127).
Coyo Taco is one of the most popular restaurants in Wynwood—and for good reason. This Mexican concept serves great food in a hip environment. The ingredients are fresh and the emphasis is always on quality. Plus, at night, Coyo opens up its backroom speakeasy nightclub.
What to eat
Anything served on a tortilla is going to be delicious. The corn tortillas are hand-pressed and made from scratch daily. The chef, Scott Linquist, bases his menu on authentic, fresh Mexican flavors and ingredients. There are the usual suspects for your taco and burrito: chicken, pork and Angus steak. But the carnitas de pato, AKA crispy duck ($9), is an unexpected yet amazing dish. Mexican staples like street corn (served both on and off the cob) are worth a try here, too.
The secret bar
Coyo Taco’s secret bar might not be that big of a secret anymore, but it still feels cool walking through the service door and into the intimate club. It isn’t spacious, but if you can get in, it’s almost always a good time. The small room has big sound and the best night to go is on Murk Mondays, when hometown hero Oscar G takes over the decks to spin his classic Miami house style. Celebs—like Diplo and even Justin Bieber—have been known to stop by for surprise sets.
When to go
If Coyo Wynwood has a downside, it’s that the big crowds can fill up the small restaurant quick. During peak lunch and dinner hours, a line stretches out the door. Seating both inside and outside is limited. Getting there slightly outside rush hour will make things easier. And if you’re really feeling lazy, you can order off Uber Eats.
