Go on, play with your food. The folks at the Federal won’t mind. Experimentation is encouraged at this bustling gastropub, located in a not-so-bustling strip mall on the upper part of Biscayne Boulevard. Co-owners Cesar Zapata and Aniece Meinhold treat this gem as if it were their very own nightly dinner party, and in a way it is. Which is why you’ll see the same faces here several nights a week, chowing down on newfangled editions of classic American dishes. Starters include a Jar-o-Duck (a Mason jar full of duck, layered with charred fluff and candied sweet potato) and buffalo-style pig wings. Popular mains include the daily-changing Not Your Granny’s Pot Pie, and a lamb burger served with grilled pickled onions on a pretzel bun.

What a waste of time. My better half and I tried to have Sunday brunch at the Federal. Got there with only a family of 3 ahead of us. The host told us to have a seat and he would get our info in a minute. After a minute another couple stepped up to the host's desk where he immediately took their name. After they left (we assumed because the wait was too long) I approached the host asking if we were also meant to record our names. I was surprised when he said "I'm sorry, who are you?" I reminded him of the long history of 2 mins ago to which he then said "I'm sorry, I see so many faces". I can understand since 3 people in the span of 2 mins is a lot to retain. I grudgingly left my name and right away called Michael's Genuine who were also fully booked but assured us they could make room for us by the bar where we had an awesome brunch meal. That's the difference between a world class establishment like MGFD and a fly by night joint like The Fed. Have a look on other restaurant review sites. The service needs work.
