STORY OF MY DEATH
(Història de la meva mort)
Introduction and Q&A with Albert Serra
Albert Serra will present this unique film, awarded with the Golden Leopard for Best Film at the 2013 Locarno International Film Festival, and with the Silver Puma for Best Director at the FICUNAM 2014.
Story of My Death depicts a time of transition from the rationalism of the end of the 18th century to the romanticism of the beginning of the 19th century, revealed through sexuality and day-to-day life. Casanova and Dracula, two ''historical'' characters, are the representatives of these two colliding worlds.
Casanova meets a new servant who will witness his last moments in life. From a Swiss castle with its gallant and libertine 18th century atmosphere, to his final days spent in poor and shadowy Northern lands. There, his rationalist way of thinking and frivolous and mundane world will succumb to a new, violent, occult and romantic force, represented by Dracula and his eternal power.

“Metacritic Score 100: STORY OF MY DEATH IS A SINGULAR WORK, AND ITS ORIGINALITY IS APPARENT IN EVERY FRAME.”-Calum Marsh, Village Voice
“SERRA CREATES RIGID, HIGHLY PRESSURIZED IMAGES ON THE VERGE OF SHATTERING WITH THE FORCE OF MYSTERY AND DESIRE”-Richard Brody, The New Yorker
“★★★★ Metacritic Score 100: Serra uses chiaroscuro in the same manner as the Expressionists, to demarcate spaces between light and shadow while confirming the entwined relationship of these two poles, drawing his two opposing figures into an ever-tighter spiral. This establishes Story of My Death as a film that dances blithely around the darkness of decay, a reminder that fruits peak in sweetness just before they start to rot.”-Jesse Cataldo, Slant Magazine
