Artists Midnight Piper Forman and Erica Dawn Lyle (working together under the collective name SOBBETH) spent the last three years exploring the ruins of Florida’s 20th-century mythologies. The result is Our Place in the Sun: part film, part installation and part novel, the show at MOCA this Friday features Lyle performing text in dialogue with sequences from the film-in-progress, offering a nonlinear, dreamlike consideration of Florida’s legacies of colonization and real estate speculation through the queer lived experience of a transgender woman living in an unspecified moment in the imminent future.
