Never one to shy away from a spectacle of opulence, glamor, or high-stakes athleticism, Miami will play host to the Pegasus World Cup Invitational for a third year this January 26 at the beautiful Gulfstream Park racetrack and casino. Here are six reasons why we’re counting down the days ’til we don our seersucker suits and flashiest hats for the 2019 Pegasus World Cup. And keep an eye out for two huge headline live music acts, too...

1. It’s the Kentucky Derby of Miami

Louisville might have the “fastest two minutes in sports,” but we have the richest. With a $16 million purse split between two Grade 1 races (dirt and turf), the 2019 Pegasus World Cup is North America’s highest-prize horse race and one of the premier events on the Thoroughbred racing calendar.

The entertainment and hospitality offerings at Pegasus are helmed by David Grutman, the mega-club mastermind behind some of Miami’s most innovative and successful spots. This year, guests can look forward to a restaurant row of curated local eateries in the Pegasus LIV Stretch Village, while VIPs will be treated to lavish options from Swan & Bar Bevy in the newly renovated Flamingo Room, the buzzy new Design District project by Grutman and Pharrell Williams (yes, that Pharrell Williams). And it gets better. For the LIV-backed bill in 2019 they’re really going all out, with Mark Ronson and Snoop Dogg headlining. Time to drop it like it’s hot, people.

3. It’s a fashion moment

There’s nothing quite like the grandeur of a Thoroughbred race to bring out the dapper in all of us. Florals, bowties, walking canes and wide-brimmed hats all get their turn in the spotlight at Pegasus World Cup, where guests, owners, and VIPs tend to put their own tropical twists on sophisticated Southern classics.

We’re not saying you should do it for the ‘Gram, but if there was ever a moment to bust out your phone for an unabashedly Insta-worthy photo op, this is it. Gulfstream Park is a sprawling, historic South Florida destination that merits a full day of exploration – make sure you catch some high-stakes action from the apron, dance in the Pegasus LIV Stretch Village, do it up ultra-luxe in the newly renovated Flamingo Room and visit the 110-foot Pegasus statue for some fire-breathing fun!

Where there’s money, there’s power, and with millions of dollars on the line, the Pegasus World Cup has no shortage of either. If ogling celebs in the flesh — or living like you’re one of them — is your cup of tea, the Pegasus World Cup is an ideal time to step out into the sunshine and onto the “blue carpet.” Last year, Lenny Kravitz, Olivia Culpo, Prince Royce, and Wilmer Valderrama were among the 12,000 guests to witness Gun Runner win the $16 million purse.

6. It’s bougie, but still accessible

With general admission tickets starting at $60 and access to the South Beach-worthy entertainment and dining in the Pegasus LIV Stretch going for $75, you don’t have to actually be as rich as you’ll feel at the Pegasus World Cup to attend. So what if a seat in the Flamingo Room (starting at a cool grand per person) isn’t currently in your budget? If you bet on the right pony, 2019 could just be your year.
