Details: ADAM LEVY Solo Record Release with School For Girls, Ana Tuiran, and Franklin Gappa at Cedar Cultural Center

Singer-songwriter Adam Levy has led Minneapolis-based roots rock chameleons, The Honeydogs, for over 20 years. Vintage Guitar Magazine called him a "great American songwriter;" Paste Magazine in 2006 referred to him as "capturing the zeitgeist of his era." His lyrics draw from his 20 years experience as a social worker working with youth offenders, immigrants and refugees, his interests in history and culture and his commitment to issues of social justice. He has expanded stylistically to lead collaborations in numerous genres ranging from classical (And The Professors) to soul (Hookers $ Blow)l, children's (Bunny Clogs) to experimental music (Liminal Phase). He is launching a solo album fall 2015 about his son Daniel's struggles with mental illness and subsequent suicide in 2012. It is Levy's most personal record to date, relying heavily on his guitar playing, voice and signature provocative lyrics.

Levy’s palette is largely acoustic on this record. He wanted to rely as much as possible on the strength of his voice and guitar playing to tell the story. His fingerpicking recalls his love of Bert Jansch, Richard Thompson, Merle Travis, Big Bill Broonzy, and Nick Drake. But Levy is no museum piece, and punctuates the folk music of the past with electronic and experimental textures, as well as his signature melodic and chordal twists and turns. Much of the record was recorded in his home with a coterie of new and old musical friends supporting.

Fans of The Honeydogs, his roots pop group now in its 20th year, will find much to like. And those who dug into his And The Professors 2013 collaboration or 10,000 Years/Amygdala era Honeydogs will find similar complex musical movement and sophisticated lyricism.

Kicking off the evening will be Franklin Gappa, followed by Ana Tuiran, School for Girls and then Adam Levy.
