Acoustic Roots:
Ananda Bates arrived at Whiskey Junction and quietly went about the business of getting ready for their set. "The group name is Acoustic Roots," said Ananda. When their set began, it all came alive. Acoustic Roots handed it to us and made it impossible to not listen and watch, completely amazed at what our ears gave us. A tight set of originals captured everyone there and online. After their set I had to fan off Ananda, they were so hot. Thanks you guys for the great set and your fantastic music.JazzyJTwin Cities Radio
Creating a timeless and inspirational sound, Ananda's Acoustic Roots music assembles elements of Blues, World, Folk and Rock with contemporary urban Soul. As a musician who plays various styles of music as well as multiple instruments, namely the guitar, vocals and various hand drums, Ananda Bates has proven to be a versatile performer bringing the grit, spirit and ambitiousness of songwriting back into contemporary urban music.
Acoustic Roots has grown as of late, adding members from various musical backgrounds to ensure the instrumentation and music embodies the diversity and power Ananda envisioned when naming this project Acoustic Roots.
Having played together since College and in the band Blue Dot Trance, guitarist Robert Zemlin has been a member of Acoustic Roots from the beginning. Assisting in the writing, arrangement and recording of many of Ananda's songs, Bob's transition to slide guitar brings an exciting new element to the music.
Percussionist Jeffrey Scroggins, who plays with Astrogasmic and Earthshake, plays with a ferocious nuance, lending an Afro-Cuban-Latin-World flavor to every drop.
Maxamiliano Benick sits atop the Cajon, holding down the low end of this driving music. Max has proven to be a versatile player adding his voice to the harmonic tapestry of Acoustic Roots' melodic tunes.
Other guest performers and instrumentation includes violin, keys, flute and drums. Acoustic Roots is gearing up for a full year with both performing and recording their self titled album. Expect a 2016 release date for possibly one of the hardest hitting, melodic grittiest albums to come out of Minneapolis in years.
