When loved ones pass away, it is normal to keep the objects they often, in remembrance of them. In the past, it was normal to keep a lock of the deceased’s hair. Photos capture the energy of a moment; this energy is transferred to those who look at the photo longing to remember a time gone by. The weapon used in a murder carries with it a strong energy, as does the wedding band.

These objects are typically used to keep hold of a dear memory of something or someone. However, in the past, relics in the church and ‘magical’ objects tied to a myth, held just as much importance. For example, a stone believed to slay Goliath is kept in high regard and used to reenact the story in people’s minds.

These mementos are not valuable themselves, but what they remind us of gives them their worth. Whether it be the memory of one’s grandfather, or of an invisible god, one uses these objects as a target of focus in order to bring back the past.
