Decolonizing Sex Positivity says
This free workshop presents a challenge to white-dominant narratives on sex positivity, providing tools to re-think a sex positivity that is less one-dimensional, more holistic, and empowering to all. People with intersecting and marginalized identities, especially people of color, can often find ourselves at odds with our culture. Trying to stay true to our whole selves and honor the complexities of our identities can be exhausting and impact our sex lives in ongoing ways. We will explore the legacies of colonialism and the lasting effect they've had on sexuality for colonial subjects. Nafeesa will focus on a South Asian/Muslim approach to these ideas to speak from her own perspective, but this workshop will engage everyone who seeks to expand, complicate, and decolonize their understanding of sex positivity.

Nafeesa Dawoodbhoy is a sex educator at The Smitten Kitten, abortion doula, and reproductive justice advocate. She is the Director of Clinic Partnerships at SPIRAL Collective, a Minneapolis non-profit supporting people in all of their pregnancy outcomes. Nafeesa sees through a sex positive and historically informed lens, invigorating her work in sex education and healthcare. Committed to expanding narratives with perspectives from folks of color, Nafeesa broadens mainstream narratives on sex positivity, pleasure, sexual health, and feminism in the US. Her hope is to increase abortion and sexual health access in post/neo-colonial nations, particularly in her homeland of Sri Lanka.
