Eq: Christian Collier says
Christian J. Collier is a modern renaissance man (poet, musician, educator, event host, etc.) who has been called a street beatnik, a spoken-word rockstar, and an artist to watch among other (mostly positive) things.

Regardless of the medium, Christian’s objective is the same: to genuinely impact and connect with each audience he’s in front of. It is this mission statement that has motivated him to keep pushing himself to delve deeper as an artist, performer, and person.

He is an accomplished artist and educator who has shared the stage with several members of HBO’s Def Poetry cast, legendary poet and activist Ishmael Reed, Grammy-nominated artist Minton Sparks, and has repeatedly been featured on the IndieFeed Performance Poetry Channel, which prides itself on featuring the best spoken word artists working today. Some of his works have been published on The Guardian website, and in such publications as Oysters & Chocolate, DEBACLE, The New Writer, and The Origami Poetry Project to name a few, and his 2009 chapbook Ghosts & Echoes has sold hundreds of copies independently solely off the strength of readings and live performances.

He will be performing with poet Adam Falkner. Christian states "For the majority of this year, I’ve been working on a project that uses poetry to explore race and sex and gender. I’ve heard a number of different perspectives, thoughts, and feelings on these issues, and I wanted to carry that over to my show. When I first became aware of Adam Falkner, it was through a poem that spoke about his privilege as a white male in America, and I was taken by his point of view. Outside of poetry, he is the primary force behind the Dialogue Arts Project, which strives to use the arts to elicit difficult conversation across lines of social identity, conflict, and difference. My goal is that by the time our performance is over, the audience will leave having felt both moved and connected not just to our work, but to our spirits as well."

Christian J. Collier is a 2015 Loft Spoken Word Immersion Fellow. This program is made possible by a major grant from the Surdna Foundation and by the generous support of Loft members.

Christian will be performing with Adam Falkner, Marisa Carr, and Charlotte Rose. Music by special guest DJ Chamun.

$5 suggested admission.
