Douglas Flanders & Associates says
Douglas Flanders & Associates is pleased to present an exhibition of recent large-scaled paintings by Samuel Bjorgum.

Bjorgum’s earlier dot paintings present disorderly arrangements of painted dots of different color and size that appear to crowd together, drift apart, and overlap one another. In his newest series of paintings that dotted foundation gives way to overlays and interweavings of looser expressive forms.

Bjorgum defines his work as pictures resulting from improvisational processes. He states, “As with abstract expressionism the work holds significance as an event, and also relates with the way painting functions more broadly as pictorial illusion. Without attempting to depict any specific figure or object, visual cues in the work suggest form and space. Each work presents an intense and playful interaction of visual elements across its composition.”

Exhibition runs: Sat, Jun 3, 2017 until Sun, Jul 9, 2017.
