Story Club Minneapolis says
Happy New Year from Story Club Minneapolis!

We invite you to join us at the Bryant Lake Bowl on Thursday, January 21st for our first show in 2016, which will feature exceptional, maverick storytellers Howard Lieberman and Courtney Algeo.

Howard Lieberman has done just about everything on stage except sing, which he would love to do if only he could carry a tune. Howard grew up on the North Side of Chicago, but went off to find fame and fortune in New York City, where he lived for 20 years. He never found what he was looking for in New York, and moved to Stillwater Minnesota in 1990 with a New York accent and a jaded sense of humor. Although Howard currently makes his living as a headhunter for attorneys, his unique blend of performance art and storytelling, has made him a fixture at various performance venues around the Twin Cities and across the US.

Courtney Algeo is a person living in Minneapolis, who loves video games, movies, and telling stories on stage whenever the opportunity arises. In a past life she authored Lit Lyfe, a weekly column on the Twin Cities Daily Planet, was the Editorial Director of Paper Darts, wrote restaurant reviews for The Alley, and served as an editor at Stymie Magazine.

If you've never been to one of our performances, Story Club features both an open mic segment and a curated selection of stories from invited performers. The Story Club stage showcases stories, like a slam, but with a more welcoming structure - no judges, no scores.

While we generally do not have themes, we'd like to invite performers to tell about new years, resolutions, and beginnings. Three weeks into 2016, it's time to seriously reflect on those commitments. We'd like to challenge tellers to think about the promises they've made to themselves and others -- what worked and what didn't.

Story Club Minneapolis is spearheaded by hosts Jamie Amy Ann and Sam Ferree. Before each show, the host, whoever it may be, invites audience members to sign up for a raffle for one of four open mic slots. The show itself is the perfect mix of spontaneity with live theater thrills. Come and excite your ears!
