From April 20 - May 10, we are turning the museum’s front plaza into a temporary park. Inspired by the pavement-to-park movement and in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition Feast: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art, the aim of the park is to “shift perspectives and spark encounters that aren’t always possible within a fast-moving and segmented society.”

Park Program Schedule:

April 20, 10:00 Park Opens!

Zine Library Workshop 10:30-1:00
Come hang out in the park and explore our Zine Library! We’ll have a collection of miscellaneous independent publications, including archives from Ivory Tower. Want to contribute? Submit your own, or make one at the park.

Arts & Architecture Library: Zine Exhibition visit 1pm-2:30pm

April 27 10:00- 1:00 Lunch Box Notes
Join WAM Collective at the Lunch Box Station to create your own napkin masterpiece. Metal lunch boxes will be labeled with prompts and act as an anonymous exchange system. Visitors can take and leave napkin art and lunch box notes in the metal lunch boxes, or take their ideas to a friend in a brown bag to go. Share your doodles with us using #wamsweetspot

April 23 10:00-1:00 Fortune Cookie Exchange
Food has the power to evoke memories, spark encounters, and create sensory experiences. Using fortune cookies as a conversation starter we want to hear your associations with food. Everyone will bring their own history to the table.

April 30 10:30-2:00 Pop-olis
What’s popcorn got to do with it? UMN professor and artist Emily Stover will make and serve 100 lbs of popcorn to passers-by. This activity will reflect the history of the university as a land grant institution tasked, in part, to conduct agricultural research, while exploring themes of production and sustenance in the midwestern landscape.

May 6 3:00-6:00 Why theatre?
Why Theatre Project aims to spark conversations about the essential impact of theatre, giving audiences a visceral answer to the question, "Why Theatre?" Catch their performance in the park on Wednesday May 6 from 3:00-6:00.

May 8 6:00-8:00 Beetnik Cafe
Step into our cafe, inspired by the 1950’s Beatnik movement, and enjoy jazz, improv, charades and beets! Don’t forget your turtlenecks and stripes. Featuring MinnProv.

May 3 11:00-5:00 Community Day

May 10 Closing Day
