American Swedish Institute says
ASI is thrilled to host this joint presentation by tapestry artist Helena Hernmarck and Frida Lindberg, owner of Alice Lund Textilier AB. Together, they will discuss their partnership in extending the legacy of modern Swedish textile designer Alice Lund and sustaining Alice Lund Textilier in Dalarna, Sweden.

Helena Hernmarck will discuss her formative apprenticeship at Alice Lund Textilier 1961-63, where she was exposed to modern Swedish design principles and the practice of working on commission with architects, and her application of this experience in the ‘new world,’ where Scandinavian design was much admired. This success in the American market gradually enabled her to transfer a portion of her production to her mentor’s workshop in Sweden, supporting Alice Lund Textilier through commissions and ensuring its future through a sustained mentorship with Frida Lindberg, whom she met in 2008.

Frida Lindberg will discuss her work taking care of the legacy of Alice Lund Textilier, inspired by textile artists such as Helena Hernmarck, Alice Lund and Sofia Widén. In 2016 the hand weaving atelier celebrates 80 years of creating textile art and interior design for private and public spaces worldwide. The atelier promotes the development handweaving both through archival research and through the production of quality textiles. Lindberg will present images of recent commissions and from daily life at the atelier - what it looks like today and glimpses from its past.
