Uber Eats has now released data of which Canadian cities are tipping the most, and Quebec has five of the top 10 cities. As delivery and takeout in Montreal and across the country continues its upward trend in times of lockdown, the delivery app has put together the numbers on who's tipping its employees the most, drivers who are joining the leagues of frontline workers keeping hungry homebound folk fed.

While the circumstances around the outbreak means that unemployment is also spreading, people are showing their generosity more than ever, with the average tip on Uber Eats increasing by more than 55% since the week of March 9.

Here are the 10 most generous Canadian cities in terms of tips:

  1. Quebec City
  2. Victoria
  3. Sherbrooke
  4. Gatineau
  5. Montreal
  6. Edmonton
  7. Vancouver
  8. Calgary
  9. Trois-Rivieres
  10. Saskatoon

According to Uber Eats, people's habits around tipping have changed, with Canadian tipping more on Fridays and Saturday with significantly higher payouts for drivers happening around early dinner time (orders placed between 5-6pm) that amount to nearly 33% higher tips than the daily average. When it comes to Quebec, people who tip in general has increased 21% since the week of March 9 in Quebec.

Interestingly enough, among those averages, it's Japanese, Thai, Italian, and pub food orders that are seeing higher tips in particular.

If you're thinking twice about that time you didn't tip, don't forget that you can look over the orders you've placed from the last 90 days and pay up retroactively.

The company notes that Canadians have contributed more than $1,000,000 through the app's contributions option for directly paying a bit extra to restaurants, an amount that has been matched by Uber Eats through the Canadian Hospitality Relief Fund.
