Uber Eats reveals the most popular comfort food orders across Canada

The rankings might surprise you—believe it or not, poutine doesn't hold the top spot in the country.

As Canadians continue to make the effort to stay indoors whenever possible, that can only mean one thing: More orders for delivery and takeout from restaurants, and that means bigger businesses for delivery apps like Uber Eats.

With all of these jumps in demand, the food delivery service recently revealed what Canadians are ordering the most at home, with the top two or three food items in seven provinces (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland were not included in Time Out's request for Canadian data).

The results are interesting to say the least, with Middle Eastern cuisine regularly topping the charts in Alberta and Nova Scotia, and curious revelations like: Did you know Manitoba loved Chinese green onion cakes so much? What's up with Saskatchewan's fixation on Indian food? Who knew people wanted bubble tea and edamame this much?

Even with the reopening of restaurants and bars floating tentatively on the horizon, the industry at large behind delivery and takeout has taken off like a rocket across North America, taking companies like Uber Eats with it. Canadians' use of food delivery apps was at an all-time high exactly one year ago—one can only imagine what's happened to those numbers since. Mid-March alone showed a 30% increase in orders in both Canada and the United States, with some of those Uber Eats sales paying up for initiatives like the Canadian Hospitality Worker Relief Fund.
