One of Montreal's largest multicultural festivals, Italian Week, has rebranded as italfestMTL and it's going down this weekend. From August 6 to 22, Little Italy is going to become a huge hotspot for all things Italian in the city, as the annual event welcomes more than 400,000 visitors to see more than 250 local and international artists.
There's going to be concert evenings, opera nights, a fashion show, comedy, cooking classes, story time for kids, exhibitions from museums, drive-in evenings (out in Kirkland, but still!), screenings of movies in Parc Dante, guided tours, and a LOT of food on offer along Little Italy's main strips of Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Dante Street, and Saint-Zotique Street. Expect the street to get pedestrianized, and for cafés, bars, and restaurants to start serving their stuff out of stalls everywhere you look.

The rebranding comes from how the hashtag #italfestmtl was used by the event and people going to the festival, and th sae simply stuck. "It was, therefore, a natural transition to modernize its image and make it universal for all languages," the organizers wrote in a press release. "With its tourist popularity increasing annually and with the diversity of its local festival-goers, italfestMTL is adopting a name that fuses well with French, English and Italian."
