Every Thursday, Café Pista's downtown location goes from coffee and croissants by day to DELI DELI in the evening, a pop-up with natural wine and garden-based menus.

While the new downtown location of Café Pista by Quartier des Spectacles is good for some latte art and baked goods during a remote work session, it's been getting better with its natural wine pop-ups called DELI DELI that have been running every Thursday since August.

With natural and biodynamic wines curated by tasting organizers Déserteur—known for throwing wine pop-ups around the city, including an upcoming one at Time Out Market Montréal—the café has been adapting its operations by creating weekly events for under $30 before taxes.

Each evening's featured as many as five glasses of wine to taste in addition to small plates to compliment what's coming off the vine. Tonight's event, for example, features salad from the market, homemade focaccia topped with vegetables and a dessert. The wines are announced the night before via DELI DELI's Instagram page. Here's what's being poured tonight:

Groups from two to four people can book spots in advance or the night of in order to help the café ensure that everyone's socially distanced from one another.

This all gets rounded out with a small grocery store space for artisanal products that come from a variety of Montreal and Quebec sources, all part of the café's repurposing of its space.

It doesn't really matter if you fancy yourself a wine geek or you're just interested. Déserteur's events are worth looking into, as they make the practice of enjoying a bit of vino a more democratized event that doesn't deal in any snobbery.

Don't forget that if you miss out on tonight's event, there's always more being announced on DELI DELI's Facebook page, and Déserteur will be setting up a tasting at Time Out Market Montréal at the end of this month!
