Live performances are hard to come by these days—whether it's music, art or live comedy. As one of the largest drawcard festivals in Montreal for garnering hundreds of thousands of international visitors each year, Just for Laughs is looking for ways to keep going this season.
Their first offering of the summer will be a pair of shows happening at the Royalmount Drive-In Theatre north of Côte-des-Neiges called the Just For Laughs Drive-In Series this weekend on July 24 and July 25. Everything will be live on stage, and it'll be happening whether the sun's out or it's raining.
On Friday, July 24, two performances of The Relationship Show will take place at 7PM and 9:30PM. Hosted by the show Cash Cab’s Adam Growe, the evening will start with an interactive quiz show before comedians Graham Chittenden, Eman El-Husseini from The Debaters and CBC’s Laugh Out Loud, Ali Hassan and Toronto's Jean Paul take the stage.
On Saturday, July 25, two performances of Comedy Night in Canada will happen at 7PM and 9:30PM. Also hosted by Adam Growe and beginning with a quiz show, the comedians on stage will include the JUNO award winner for "Comedy Album of the Year" Ivan Decker, Frank Spadone, writer for Baroness von Sketch Jess Salomon and Montreal veteran comedian Eddy King.
Tickets are still available for all times listed above; anyone who's driving up should expect health regulations such as staying inside or within the immediate vicinity of their car, and masks are encouraged (but not mandatory). The prices might seem steep, but it's per vehicle, not per person, at a maximum of five people per car. At the beginning of the outbreak and the ensuing cancellations and postponements of events this summer, Just for Laughs was one of the few big events of the year to not outright cancel their plans. Instead, events such as these and online broadcasts are increasing in frequency, including their full festival going online later this summer. Stay tuned for more details.
