Rising spring floodwaters have forced officials to shut down the Île Mercier Bridge to all vehicle traffic as of 7 p.m. Monday in the borough of L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève, as the Rivière des Prairies swells to critical levels.

Pedestrians, however, are still permitted to cross.

When will the Île Mercier Bridge re-open?

City authorities say the closure will remain in effect until further notice, with conditions continuing to deteriorate.

Residents are being strongly urged to steer clear of the area and respect all posted restrictions.

The disruption is part of a wider wave of flooding impacts across the region.

De l’Anse-à-l’Orme Road, between Senneville Road and Timberlea-Trail Street, has also been closed since Sunday evening due to rising water levels.

According to a statement by the City, Montreal’s Special Response Plan for spring flooding remains fully activated, with city, borough, and municipal teams deployed to monitor conditions and protect public safety.

Officials say resources are in place and mitigation efforts are underway as water levels continue to fluctuate.

Civil security crews remain on the ground tracking developments in real time. Residents in vulnerable zones are being urged to follow official city updates and subscribe to emergency alert systems.

Meanwhile, sandbag distribution is being managed at the borough level, with residents directed to contact local offices or dial 311 for assistance.
