Ban the Box Nashville says
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March, people of faith are recognizing that the struggle for justice continues. A committed group of local residents called Democracy Nashville invites you to participate in Ban the Box Sunday on March 29th, Palm Sunday.

We are asking 50 congregations to help us collect signed petitions from registered Davidson County voters in support of a “Ban the Box” charter referendum. The petition and referendum seek to remove the question about convictions from Metro government job applications at the beginning stage of the employment process. Ban the Box measures reduce unfair barriers to employment and have been endorsed by civil rights and faith-based groups across the country.

If your congregation would be interested in assisting with this event, contact Ban the Box Nashville by direct message here on Facebook, or contact Jackie Sims at 615-679-8388 or jackiepaulsims@gmail.com or Kenneth Caine at 615-668-9156 or riverprint@bellsouth.net. Members from our Ban the Box team can assist with the petition before, during, or after service. We will also be registering voters as part of this event.

We will be listing congregations here as they commit to gathering signatures for this event. Get in touch to add yours!
