God And The Gay Christian

Time Out says

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions, the Matthew Vines event will be cancelled tomorrow. It is our desire to reschedule this event, probably during this Fall, and we hope you will check back with our Wesley Fellowship at Vanderbilt page for updates. Matthew Vines is a gay Christian—and that’s no contradiction. He is the author of God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships, and has become a leading new voice on the Bible and homosexuality. His groundbreaking speech countering anti-gay interpretations of Scripture has been viewed on YouTube over 800,000 times. The New York Times calls him “an unlikely advocate (and lightning rod) for those straddling one of the most volatile fault lines in America’s culture war: homosexual Christians.” In this presentation, Vines expands on his famous speech about the Bible and homosexuality that calls for acceptance of gay Christians. He draws on his own personal experience coming out in a conservative Christian household and his in-depth research into the Bible—a powerfully persuasive combination—to present an interpretation of Scripture that has influenced many conservative Christians. This moving talk shows how Scripture—and society—has the capacity to accept and encourage loving gay relationships. There is much to learn from Vines’ message of hope, acceptance, and love—for everyone. This event is free and open to the public, and will consist of a 45-minute presentation along with a 45-minute Q&A session. Following this, there will be a book signing in the Chapel lobby area hosted by the Vanderbilt Barnes and Noble. This event is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Wesley Fellowship, in partnership with the Office of LGBTQI Life, Office of University Chaplain and Religious Life, United Methodist Student Association, Edgehill UMC, and Belmont UMC.
