Redd Linen Night is a visual and performance art fundraiser which celebrates the work of Ashé’s beloved co-founder Douglas Redd, now an ancestor. Redd was a visual artist whose work has been described as the pivotal graphic influence for many of the African, African-American and Caribbean programs and events held in and around New Orleans. This year, Redd Linen Night focuses on the art of muralists whose work you’ve often seen around town. Featured artists include Brandan Bmike Odums , J Hand Paints, Jamar Duvol Pierre, Marcus Akinlana - Positive Creations Fine Arts/WON Mural Society , Artist Journey Allen and others. The frequently-photographed mural located in Ashé’s parking lot will also be featured. The artists who had a hand in its creation are Ivan B. Watkins, Shakor, Jamar Pierre, Douglas Redd and Lidya Arraya. Accompanying each piece of art will be various interdisciplinary performances.

In the Big Easy, “linen night” has become synonymous with art showings, particularly in the French Quarter and the Arts/Warehouse District. The Oretha Castle Haley corridor and Redd Linen Night have joined them, showcasing home-grown visual artists, but with a twist. Add to the excitement. Wear something red!
