Take an in-depth look at how fashion and style play a role in redefining black male stereotypes with stylist Torrence Taylor and independent curator Shantrelle P. Lewis. The evening will feature: Fashions from Southern Style International (SSI), a company that focuses on the whole image of a person. Created by Torrence Taylor, SSI's motto is "We don't change you, we expand you."
• Sapeurs, a short documentary that features the Sapeurs, whom take their name from the acronym for their group: SAPE, meaning Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes (The Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People). These men are a group of humble, refined people from Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo. Their lives are not defined by occupation or wealth, but by respect, a moral code and an inspirational display of flair and creativity.
• The Dandy Lion Project is a short film documentation of the Shantrelle P. Lewis' Dandy Lion Project. A Dandy Lion is a contemporary man of SWAG, who oozes creativity and makes well-thought-out decisions in expressing his individuality. The film is in the form of a unique portrait session by contributing artist Sara Shamsavari, as part of The African Street Style Festival.
