Sculpture for New Orleans says
On Monday, April 24th, International Sculpture Day, The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation will unveil Tara Conley’s Bravegirl as the newest addition to the largest rotating exhibit of public sculpture in the South. Bravegirl, an empowering text piece perched above ground rendered in hollow constructed aluminum and painted with fluorescent pink auto paint, will be installed on the neutral ground of Poydras Street and S. Peters Street.

At 5:30pm, Conley will be joined by artists Rachel David and Ashley Pridmore to speak about their art and the role art and artists plays in empowering communities in a conversation moderated by the Joan Mitchell Center Director Gia Hamilton. Rachel David’s steel piece, Weft, was installed on the Poydras Corridor in 2015. Ashley Pridmore, a Texas-based sculptor will have a new work joining the Poydras Corridor in the fall of 2017. This talk, located in the Patrick F. Taylor library is free and open to the public with a wine reception to follow.

In addition, The Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition presented by The Helis Foundation will be running an International Sculpture Day social media contest – follow along at Facebook.com/SculptureForNewOrleans and Instagram.com/poydrascorridor/ for more details and chances to win Bravegirl T-Shirts.
