PATOIS: The New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival presents: BOUND: AFRICANS VS. AFRICAN AMERICANS ----------------- Bound: Africans vs. African Americans | USA | 2014 | 90min | Documentary African versus African Americans (AVAA) is a hard hitting documentary that addresses the little known tension that exists between Africans and African Americans. AVAA uses personal testimonials to expose this rift, then it takes us on a journey through the corridors of African and African American historical experiences as it illuminates the moments that divide and those that bind Africans and African American. Directed by Peres Owino. Director Peres Owino will be in attendance. --------------------------------- This screening is co-sponsored by the NOLA Chapter of the BYP 100. Black Youth Project 100 (BYP 100) is an activist member-based organization of Black 18-35 year olds, dedicated to creating justice and freedom for all Black people. We do this through building a collective focused on transformative leadership development, non-violent direct action organizing, advocacy and education. Founded by New Orleans artists and activists, PATOIS: The New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival is dedicated to nurturing the city’s human rights community, supporting the work of local organizers and organizations involved in these struggles, and providing a forum for artistic expression of local and international issues. PATOIS is back this year after a brief hiatus, ready to premiere new powerful social justice oriented films from around the world while highlighting brilliant local filmmakers and the vital grassroots organizations doing work in the city.
