A massive £4 million outdoor lido will open in Yorkshire next year

It may not sound like the most tempting spot for an alfresco dip, but the pool will be heated to a balmy 29C

When you think of open-air pools with parasols and sun loungers, Hull probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But soon the Yorkshire city will soon have its own very own snazzy outdoor lido.

Measuring a whopping 25 metres by 37 metres, the new Albert Avenue pool will be deep enough to host kayak polo contests and competitive swimming events. But most crucially of all, it will be surrounded by parasols, sun loungers and children’s play fountains, making it an ideal place just to sit back and chill. And if you’re concerned about the weather in these parts? Thankfully, the pool will be heated to a toasty 29C.

This won’t be the first time that the Albert Avenue Pools complex has had a lido. It first opened an outdoor heated pool in 1958 and was a city favourite until it closed for good in the 1990s. The current refurb is an attempt to regenerate the local area of Newington. The total cost to the council is estimated to be around £4.6 million.

So when can Hullensians expect their glorious, brand-spanking-new lido? Well, work has only just started, but it’s expected that the renovated centre will be finished and open to the public by summer 2023.

Did you see that Brighton is getting a cool new beachfront lido, too?
