Last month, Airbnb underwent a huge, potentially game-changing relaunch. And among the site’s new features is the ability for users to find a rental based on its category rather than its location. With the site’s accom now available to filter through categories like ‘arctic’, ‘A-frame’, ‘barn’, ‘historical homes’ and ‘OMG’, users can now more easily base a trip around an especially spectacular place to stay.

Needless to say, the update is pretty damn cool and lets travellers more easily find the site’s most incredible rentals. And one of the most interesting filters lets you look at ‘island’ stays – and yes, often they do mean you can rent an entire island. Pretty sweet, huh?

Airbnb’s private island rentals range from historic houses in Canadian lakes and chic cabins in the Scandi wilderness to serene pads on Belizean atolls and vast Caribbean island complexes. On offer are some of the site’s most extravagant rentals, so below we’ve picked out five that have really caught our eye.
