November on Netflix means two things: the arrival of the streamer’s awards bait and an avalanche of Christmas content. In terms of potential Oscar contenders, that includes two intense international dramas: Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love and Marie Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster. On the other end of the spectrum, there are almost too many sift through - highlight titles include A Dog’s Perfect Christmas, A Runaway Bride for Christmas and Rodeo Christmas Romance – though the standout is probably Guarding Stars, which does The Bodyguard as a gender-swapped romcom. Elsewhere, Mike Tyson does standup, Jessica Chastain goes country, and a bunch of football players go to war. Here’s the rest of what we’re anticipating most.

Bass X Machina

Brian Tyree Henry and Janelle Monae lend their voices to this rather badass-looking anime-inspired animated series, set in a steampunk vision of the Old West, in which the Civil War is re-fought using futuristic machines.

Premieres Nov. 3

Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike

Haven’t we, as a society that no longer cares about boxing, gotten over our fascination with Mike Tyson yet? Apparently not, because he’s doing one-man stage shows now. All right.

Premieres Nov. 3

Black Doves season 2

Keira Knightley is a London-based spy whose secret life comes undone after the guy she’s been sleeping with turns up dead in this entertaining action-thriller series from The Lazarus Project creator Joe Barton. Neve Campbell joins for the second season.

Premieres Nov. 5

Funny Money: The Dane Cook Story

Remember Dane Cook? Once every frat guy’s favorite comic, he receded from the spotlight after getting swindled out of millions of dollars by his own brother. This is his story.

Premieres Nov. 6

Possible Love

Korean director Lee Chang-dong’s first movie since 2018’s acclaimed Burning is one of the more anticipated events in international cinema this year. In the simplest terms, the film explores the marriages of two very different couples whose lives unexpectedly intersect, with all the deep feeling expected of Chang-dong.

Premieres Nov. 6

Avedon

Ron Howard explores the career of photographer Richard Avedon, whose still portraits often contained enough life and movement that they seemed like movies, anyway.

Premieres Nov. 6

The Body

After a hazing ritual goes wrong, a Catholic school dance team must reckon with the consequences. Based on the trailer, this teen drama series from actor-director Quinn Shephard looks to triangulate Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Riverdale and Sex Education. Color us intrigued.

Premieres Nov. 11

Allen

Ludo, the Australian studio behind Bluey, gives the world the unofficial E.T. sequel we’ll (probably) never get for real. Twenty years after a close encounter, a guy reconnects with the alien he befriended in childhood.

Premieres Nov. 12

Heartland

Jessica Chastain is a washed-up country singer who goes a-searchin’ for her missing niece in the underbelly of Nashville in this drama from Shana Feste, who previously countrified Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie Country Strong.

Premieres Nov. 13

Cunk on Cinema

On the hilarious mockumentary series Cunk on Earth, Diane Morgan portrays Philomena Cunk, a sort of unthinking man’s David Attenborough. In this spinoff special, she asks a broad philosophical question: what even are movies? The likes of Michael Bay, Benedict Cumberbatch and Daniel Pemberton try to help her understand – godspeed to them

Premieres Nov. 15

Gentle Monster

A woman’s life collapses after her husband is accused of being a pedophile. Unsurprisingly, the word out of Cannes was that Marie Kreutzer’s drama is aggressively bleak, but that Lea Seydoux’s lead performance is must-see.

Premieres Nov. 18

Guarding Stars

It’s The Bodyguard meets The Proposal in what looks to be the highlight of Netflix’s Christmas crop. Leighton Meester is a bodyguard hired to protect a movie star (Jared Padalecki) from a stalker, who agrees to feign a romantic relationship over the holidays to keep the latter’s family from worrying. Will sparks fly for real? We’re not in the spoiler business but, c’mon, y’know where this is going.

Premieres Nov. 18

The Altruists

Scammers are back in the zeitgeist – not that they ever went away. This limited series looks at tech bro Sam Bankman-Fry and gal-pal Caroline Ellison, the fraudsters between the collapse of crypto exchange FTX. Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner play the couple.

Premieres Nov. 19

Steps

Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, better known as the comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates, spearheaded this animated musical that looks to rehabilitate the image of Cinderella’s mean stepsisters. The impressive voice cast includes comedians Ali Wong and Nikki Glaser, plus Amanda Seyfried, Stephanie Hsu, Daniel Radcliffe, Peter Dinklage and Bette Midler.

Premieres Nov. 20

The Mosquito Bowl

Peter Berg adapts Buzz Bissinger’s novel about four American pro-football players who enlist to fight in World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Berg’s generally pretty good at this kind of rah-rah stuff, and the cast includes Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Galitzine and Ray ‘Son of Jack’ Nicholson. Unfortunately, it also includes the inexplicably omnipresent sports blabbermouth Pat McAfee as well.

Premieres Nov. 25

The Hunting Wives season 2

This deliciously trashy soap opera became a mild sensation in its first season. Brittany Snow is a new arrival in a Texas town who becomes ensnared in the world of a conniving socialite, played by Malin Åkerman. Sex, death and coverups ensue.

Premieres Nov. 26

The Hunchback, Soul of Paris

The great Vincent Cassel steps into the hump of Quasimodo in this reimagining of Victor Hugo’s classic novel as an action-thriller.

Premieres Nov. 27
