If you get seasick easily, look away now. The future of hotel rooms is here – and it looks distinctly… choppy. Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini has unveiled designs for a type of floating room called a Pearlsuite, which, at first glance, looks a little bit like a cross between a UFO and a pedalo.
Lazzarini’s designs are for a company called Jet Capsule, and the idea is that the suites (or ‘floating living solutions’) are supposed to be a low-cost, super-sustainable way for hotels to expand their capacity.
The pods will be have hydrogen batteries and be 100 percent solar-powered. They’ll measure seven metres in diameter, have one metre of surrounding walkable decking, and, as you can see in the pics below, have a retractable roof so you can soak up those rays.
As for what’s actually inside Pearlsuites, they’ll have ensuite bathrooms (I mean, where else are you going to go?) and kitchenettes. The pods will have the potential to be mobile, too. The idea is that the Pearlsuites will be equipped with an engine and use GPS to either stay in the same place or even travel to other locations on autopilot.
When exactly the Pearlsuites might go into production is anyone’s guess. But we can’t help thinking... worst comes to worst, if efforts to slow global warming go down the shitter, maybe we can all have one of these instead?
