If you’re well and truly fed up of this year, here’s something that might make the end of 2020 and beyond a little sweeter: the chance to pack it all in and become a ‘barefoot bookseller’ in the Maldives instead.

Soneva Fushi, a luxury eco resort on the island of Kunfunadhoo in the Maldives, is advertising a dream job right now. They’re looking for someone to run their on-site bookshop, and are calling the job ‘the ultimate vacancy for a desert island bibliophile: barefoot bookselling, in one of the most beautiful places in the world.’

The bookshop is set to reopen in mid-October, when the newly appointed bookseller takes up residence on the island for a six-month stint. Once settled into island life, they will manage the store and run experiences for the guests, like creative writing workshops, tutoring and personalised reading recommendations.

The ‘barefoot bookseller’ will also write blog posts about their experiences and document their frankly dreamy existence on social media.
