Kit Harington’s Jon Snow is heading back to Westeros in a newly-announced Game of Thrones sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO’s new live-action series will follow the fan-favourite character and newly-revealed scion of the House Targaryen, presumably as he absorbs the fact that he really did know nothing after all.

The twice-Emmy-nominated Londoner will presumably pick up soon after the events of Game of Thrones’s deely polarising last-season finale (who are we kidding? It was rubbish).

Hasty spoiler warning but in season eight, Snow was still digesting the fact that his real name was Aegon Targaryen and that he was a possible heir to the Iron Throne. It all ended with him heading back north of the wall to pick up his simpler past life with the Wildlings.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the set-up opens the door to the possibility of other surviving characters returning. Will we see Maisie Williams’s Arya Stark, Sophie Turner’s Sansa Stark and Gwendoline Christie’s Brienne of Tarth all back too?

For Harington, it’ll be a return to thee familiar world of Westeros after recent outings in Marvel’s Eternals and as a much-lauded lead in the National Theatre’s ‘Henry V’.

The so-far unnamed series joins multiple other Game of Thrones-related projects at different stages of development, including a play based on George RR Martin’s epic book series. The first to land will be prequel series House of the Dragon on August 21, which is set 200 years before Game of Thrones.

How many shared universes can the world sustain? We’re about to find out.
