1. Tron: Ares (Disney+)

A movie about a sympathetic AI being was never going to go over well in our current technological climate, and casting Jared Leto to play him was probably the final nail in this third Tron movie’s box-office fortunes. Still, it has a visual panache that makes it worth a watch for certain sci-fi heads – although the truest reason to stream is the banging original soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails. 2. People We Meet on Vacation (Netflix)

In some circles, this is the early streaming-movie event of the young year, as Emily Henry’s bestselling 2021 novel gets the romcom treatment it was always destined to receive. Emily Bader and Tom Blyth are childhood pals with very different outlooks on life and how to spend it, who reunite yearly in various locales. Will they realize they’re actually in love? No spoilers!

3. Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live (Hulu)

It always seemed odd to make a Bruce Springsteen biopic while the actual guy is still alive and kicking ass onstage, and this tie-in concert film drives that point home: why watch Jeremy Allen White play Nebraska when you can get the songs straight from the source? In contrast to his usual marathon concerts, the Boss strips back and sits down to perform his stark 1982 classic.

4. Chain Reactions (Shudder)

Upon release, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was shrugged off by ‘serious’ critics as well-made schlock, but Tobe Hooper’s grindhouse masterpiece has since taken rightful place alongside The Exorcist and The Shining as one of the greatest horror movies of all-time. This doc explores the film’s lasting influence on the genre through interviews with such aficionados as Patton Oswalt, Stephen King and director Takashi Miike.
