Accurately described as Rosemary’s Baby meets The Raid, this bloody-fun action-horror flick stars Zazie Beetz as a desperate ex-con who takes a housekeeping job in a Manhattan high-rise, only to discover it’s populated by a Satanic cult, and to survive, she must fight her way out, level by level. Its theatrical run was somewhat diluted by the very similar Ready or Not 2 coming out around the same time, but this one has a Sam Raimi-goes-Looney Tunes vibe that deserves to be seen. Mexico’s first fully stop-motion feature (believe it or not) is a prequel to the Frankelda’s Book of Spooks animated series. In the 19th century, a young horror writer named Francisca is captured by the rulers of a nightmare world dependent on her to invent fresh frights to feed the collective human subconscious. Guillermo del Toro served as an advisor on the film, and it definitely seems to reflect his sensibilities – meaning, it looks cool, lightly spooky and emotional.

A group of college-age friends on a girls trip to Joshua Tree, California, are stalked and threatened by meth-y locals. More of a dark thriller than the straight-up horror typical of a Shudder Original, the movie has echoes of lots of movies – Wake in Fright, Wolf Creek, The Descent, etc. – but early reviews say it’s tight, tense and geared toward the sensibilities of Gen Z.
Watch Find Your Friends now on Shudder
Apparently there was some sort of behind-the-scenes controversy involving this film? Weird. Anyway, this adaptation of the Colleen Hoover bestseller stars Blake Lively as an aspiring businesswoman who enters into a relationship with a handsome neurosurgeon, played by director Justin Baldoni, that seems to mirror that of her parents’ – not a good thing.
