1. “Wuthering Heights” (HBO Max)

Emerald Fennell was already one of the most polarising young filmmakers before she decided to adapt one of the most beloved Victorian novels of all-time. She changed enough details to irk purists – hence the quotation marks – but it’s still a rather hot, horny (if ultimately pretty empty) take. Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are the toxic lovers at the story’s center, with a soundtrack by Charli XCX. Read Time Out’s review.

2. Swapped (Netflix)

Who could’ve predicted that Michael B Jordan’s first post-Sinners project would be voicing a woodland creature who swaps bodies with the winged predator who wants to eat him? All right, so it’s probably just a scheduling thing, but it’s still weird optics to go from a major Oscar win to a Netflix animated movie. Word is, though, that it’s sweetly empathetic – and it has Tracy Morgan doing Tracy Jordan as a fish, which sounds promising.

3. Heresy (Shudder)

In this Dutch folk-horror chiller, a woman in a medieval village finds her faith tested by supernatural entities lurking in the surrounding woods. It sounds exceedingly The Witch-coded, but looks properly atmospheric and goosebump-raising.

4. Hallow Road (Hulu)

Matthew Rhys and Rosamund Pike give appropriately harried performances in this psychological thriller as parents speeding to help their daughter with a roadside emergency – she’s struck a pedestrian on an isolated stretch of highway. As they race to the scene, with the kid on the phone in a panic, it becomes clear she’s not alone.
