🆕 What’s new on Netflix in October 2025

1. A House of Dynamite (Netflix)

After her history-making Oscar win a decade and a half ago, it’s been mostly quiet on the Kathryn Bigelow front. Now she’s back, and apparently still fascinated with the inner workings of the military-industrial complex. In her new political thriller, a missile attack is launched against the United States, and the government must scramble to intercept it. When Bigelow is on top of her game, there are few better directors, and early word suggests this is top-tier work. Read our review.

2. Weapons (HBO Max)

Well, that was sudden. Somewhat out of nowhere, Zach Cregger’s immensely entertaining horror hit is hitting HBO Max, just in time for Halloween. Granted, it’s best experienced in a crowded theater, but if you missed it, carve out time – it’s like Pulp Fiction plus Hereditary, divided by the wicked sense of humour of Cregger’s previous film, 2022’s Barbarian, only leveled up into a mass-appeal blockbuster. 3. Host (Prime)

In this Thai horror film, a young woman arrives at a strict boarding school located on a remote island, where she has to deal with a hierarchical social structure, a dictatorial headmaster and strange supernatural phenomena. Man, high school sucks, doesn’t it?

Watch Host on Prime starting October 23

4. Stiller and Meara: Nothing Is Lost (Apple TV)

Ben Stiller directed this documentary about his own parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, who in the 1960s made up the legendary comedy duo Stiller and Meara. Naturally, Stiller explores how their stage act dovetailed into their marriage and home life, using a trove of personal archival recordings the pair left behind.

5. Bad Shabbos (Netflix)

An overlooked gem from 2024 with a sweet cast, this interfaith comedy stars Kyra Sedgwick as the matriarch of a Jewish family whose internal tensions boil over at the dinner table during Shabbos, instigated by an unexpected death. David Paymer, Milana Vayntrub and Method Man – yes, that Method Man – are also involved.
