Travelling can be stressful enough without having to deal with uncomfortable seats, lengthy delays, last-minute cancellations and terrible service. That’s why finding a great airline is essential: avoiding all that annoying stuff makes travelling to new places much, much more pleasant and fun.
Finding the world’s best air carriers is exactly the point of airline rating site Skytrax, which has hosted the World Airline Awards every year since 1999. This year’s ceremony took place yesterday (June 20) in the Air and Space Museum in Paris.
If you’re getting a bit of déjà vu, that’s understandable. Skytrax’s list comes hot on the heels of another recent ranking by air carrier rating company AirlineRatings.com. You can read all about that ranking here.
Anyway, according to Skytrax, the best airline in the world right now is Singapore Airlines. Beating last year’s winner Qatar Airways, the Singaporean carrier also won awards for its first-class services. This is the fifth time that Singapore Airlines has taken the top spot at Skytrax’s awards.
Second was last year’s winner Qatar Airways, while third was Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways (ANA). Qatar Airways was also the best overall for business class passengers. Airlines from the Middle East and Asia dominated the ranking, with Air France being the only European or North American airline to crack the top ten.
