It’s inevitable that passenger numbers are beginning to spike again this holiday season as people jet off for a summer getaway – and airports across Europe are bracing themselves, trying to avoid last year’s summer travel chaos

But it’s one thing flying from a busy airport, it’s another flying from a chaotic one. If you want to avoid unnecessary stress before your trip even begins, which airport should you fly from?

To find out, passenger rights company AirHelp looked at the number of delays of more than 15 minutes and flight cancellations in June at European airports with 5,000 or more flights that month.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, London Gatwick Airport was the most chaotic airport in Europe this summer, with 54% of its flights disrupted. That's more than half! Staff at the airport are walking out over a pay dispute this summer, so make sure you check your departure or arrival dates and plan accordingly. Manchester Airport was the other UK airport on the list, coming in at number eight.

Türkiye and Italy also have two airports apiece that made the most chaotic airports list. Other airports in the list included those in popular European cities like Lisbon, Copenhagen and Paris.

Here are the most chaotic airports in Europe this summer, according to AirHelp.

  1. London Gatwick Airport, England
  2. Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport, Portugal
  3. Copenhagen Kastrup Airport, Denmark
  4. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, France
  5. Antalya Airport, Türkiye
  6. Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen, Türkiye
  7. Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport, Italy
  8. Manchester International Airport, England
  9. Milano Malpensa Airport, Italy
  10. Frankfurt International Airport, Germany

Did you see that this country has lost the title of most powerful passport for the first time in five years?
