A good holiday destination might have stunning natural beauty, nice weather or delicious food, but feeling welcomed on your holiday is something that might make you want to return. And if great hospitality is what you’re after, look no further: Booking.com’s 12th annual Traveller Review Awards are in.

By evaluating a whopping 309 million customer reviews from the Booking.com website, they’ve curated a list of the ten most welcoming places to stay across the world.

And first up, it’s Arraial d'Ajuda, a charming little Brazilian beach resort town which is the much quieter, calmer alternative to Porto Seguro. 72 percent of travellers said this is the dreamiest place for a bit of rest and recharge, but it’s more than just a beach resort. There are lovely colourful houses and even one of the oldest Catholic churches in Brazil, Nossa Senhora d’Ajuda, dotted around this town, too.

Ermoupoli, the capital of Greek island Syros, also made the list. Characterised by tiny, winding streets and neoclassical architecture, this place is ideal for a wander. Viana do Castelo in Portugal, a picturesque coastal town not too far from Porto, is another of the world’s most welcoming places.
