Sure, a vineyard’s sole purpose is to be an efficient and profitable place to produce wine, but the high altitudes among gorgeous hills, often blessed with a warm, sunny climate, means that excellent grape-growing and natural beauty often go hand in hand.
And some parts of Europe are absolutely overflowing with vineyards. But if you’re heading to sample some wine and snap some pics for the ‘gram, which destination is the best? Well, ferry operator DFDS has analysed a whopping 20,000 Google reviews in search of words such as ‘beautiful’, ‘picturesque’ and ‘scenic’, and each one has been assigned a beauty score.
Claiming the top spot, with 97.9 out of 100, is Vinarija Rizman in southern Croatia. Outranking famous wine regions such as Italy and France, this vineyard is family-owned and features 23 hectares and more than 1,700 olive trees.
Unsurprisingly, Italy claims spots two and three, with Poggio del Moro Boutique Winery and Winery San Giorgio a Lapi, both in central Italy between Florence and Rome. France on the other hand doesn’t make an appearance until spot number five with Château de la Crée, being closely followed by the UK with English Oak Vineyard.
