Getting bored of winter’s chilly wind and drenching rain? Well, here’s the chance to stay somewhere that is pretty much the complete opposite vibe. There’s a villa in the Mexican jungle that comes with its own cenote – and it’s available to rent on Airbnb.

A cenote is essentially a kind of natural underground reservoir usually associated with the Yucatán region of Mexico. Cenotes had special significance for ancient Mayans, but these days they’re better known for being really, really spectacular swimming spots.

The Airbnb in question is called Villa Xnuuk and it’s in Nuuku, a community of six villas about half an hour’s drive from Cancun airport. All the villas are in a modern Mayan style and hidden away in the jungle.

Villa Xnuuk has its own cenote, sure, but that isn’t the end of its charms. The rental also boasts an outdoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi and loads of sun loungers and hammocks, as well as complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking. It’s designed as a romantic couples’ retreat, with only one king-size bed and a strict adults-only policy.

All this is in the jungle and a far cry from the manic antics of beach party hotspot Cancun. Here are a few pics of Villa Xnuuk.

Not bad, eh? You can book the Villa Xnuuk and find out more here. And with December temperatures in Cancun in the mid 20Cs, it sure beats this winter’s chilly drizzle.
