G.U.I.D. (whose full name translates as ‘Urban Group for Intervention through Dance’) was formed in the late 1990s with a statement of intent: to create choreography far removed from the ‘mushiness’ of mainstream dance, and to reconnect with the public through more direct theatre. Under the direction of Angelin Preljocaj, its members have staged performances in train stations, schoolyards and even weekend marketplaces, always in the pursuit of a democratic platform for their art. In the more conventional surroundings of the Centre National de la Danse, the collective will stage a medley of their dances. A screening of some of Preljocaj’s short films will follow.
