For this groundbreaking new exhibit, the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent has reconstructed the personal art collections of haute couture demigods Jacques Doucet (1853-1929) and Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) – the aim being to demonstrate the two designers’ creative like-mindedness and similar artistic tastes. Across their lifetimes, the two couturiers would end up transforming whole wings of their respective homes into incredibly impressive private pseudo-museums, each overflowing with works from some of modern art’s greatest talents (from Braque and Duchamp to Matisse and Modigliani). The layouts of both collections are faithfully replicated here, and the whole exhibit exudes an exceptional sense of harmony.
